Several major US footwear retailers have shortened seasonal buying timelines after elevated carryover inventory reduced open-to-buy flexibility. Brands are now required to confirm styles, pricing, and delivery schedules earlier than in previous seasons.

Compressed calendars have lowered tolerance for late sampling and last-minute changes, particularly in women’s footwear categories with fast style turnover. Delays that were once absorbed during development are now more likely to affect seasonal placement.

As a result, supplier evaluation criteria have shifted. Buyers increasingly prioritize responsiveness, reliability, and early commitment over marginal cost advantages. Speed and execution certainty have become critical requirements as brands seek to protect limited sell windows while controlling inventory risk.
